Resident enjoys high tea in style at cherished location

A luxury-loving resident living at a Premium Care Group care home in Epping, enjoyed a surprise afternoon tea as she returned to a beloved location from her youth.

Averil Gilbert, who has lived at Weald Hall Care Home for two years, was surprised with a visit to Claridge’s for an afternoon tea, one of her most favourite things.

90-year-old Averil has always loved living the high life and used to frequently dine at many restaurants in London with her husband and friends.

Care home manager, Danielle Barham, and Charlie from the home’s lifestyle team, accompanied Averil in a swanky, chauffeur driven car to the 5-star luxury hotel in London’s Mayfair to enjoy an elegant afternoon tea. 

Averil had a great day and described the afternoon as a “world class experience.” She said: “The food and tea was the loveliest I have ever tasted!”

Home manager, Danielle Barham, who arranged the visit, said: “It was wonderful to see Averil enjoy every moment and have an amazing time. Being able to give our residents magic moments is a great honour and I hope we can continue to do this for each and every one of them.”

Averil lived a full and happy life with her husband and family. She had many hobbies, including ballroom dancing and exploring new restaurants around the city.

Averil was also the director of her family business and spent her free time on her yacht with her group of girlfriends.
